SHORT FILM:: "JEREMY" written by Jonathan Durrah & Paquita Hughes

Rock Violet Motion, a boutique production company, would like to announce the next short film in development, "Jeremy", a coming of age, crime suspense drama written by first time writer, Jonathan Durrah, alongside industry veteran, Paquita Hughes. It will be directed by Chloe Mondesir, following her directorial debut, dramatic short film "Jacks", currently on the festival market.

Logline: Jeremy makes a mature decision to leave his small-time, dope boy ways behind him when obligations of fatherhood surface, only to be tested by his closest friends, in a small town where loyalty runs deeper than blood.

This film is adapted from a story written by Jonathan "Jont" Durrah, who grew up in the small town of Columbus, Mississippi.  It's a city in and the county seat of Lowndes County, on the eastern border of Mississippi, United States, located primarily east, but also north and northeast of the Tombigbee River, which is also referred to as the Tennessee-Tombigbee Waterway.

Columbus has hosted Columbus Air Force Base (CAFB) since World War II. CAFB was founded as a flight training school. Today, it is one of only four basic Air Force flight training bases in the United States, and prized as the only one where regular flight conditions may be experienced. Columbus boasted a number of industries during the mid-20th century, including the world's largest toilet seat manufacturer, Sanderson Plumbing Products, and major mattress, furniture and textile plants. Most of these had closed by 2000. A series of new plants at the Golden Triangle Regional Airport, including the Severstal mill, the American Eurocopter factory, the Paccar engine plant and the Aurora Flight Sciences facility, are revitalizing the local economy.

Columbus is the birthplace of famous playwright Tennessee Williams, author of Cat on a Hot Tin Roof and A Streetcar Named Desire. His birthplace, formerly the rectory of nearby St. Paul's Episcopal Church, is now the welcome center for Columbus (300 Main St., Columbus). Columbus is also the birthplace of baseball announcer Red Barber; boxing's first three-time world heavyweight champion, Henry Armstrong; rock singer Andrew Wood; the parents of Grammy-award-winning bluegrass musician Alison KraussAmerican Idol contestant Jasmine Murray; and bluegrass musician Ruby Jane Smith

Jont with his daughter
He grew up living next door to his co-writer, Paquita "Kika" Hughes, who attended elementary, middle and secondary school with his older sister. They lived in a low income housing complex called, Applewood with Yorkville on one side and later Stringer Manor on the other side, as close neighbors housed one unit above the other. Paquita grew up sporadically mentoring Jonathan with reading, writing, tying his shoes, playing the piano and basic computer skills to name a few, until she graduated high school and went off to college, later joining the military.

Fast forward a decade or two they reconnected on social media and are now collaborating on Jonathan's first script for a short film, hoping to promote it in festivals next year as a concept for a feature film they are also writing together. The script has been in development and will soon be ready for pre-production. The plan is to raise $5,000 for production, with filming in Columbus, MS mid August, pending funds. In February 2019, Columbus took a direct hit from an EF-3 tornado that caused devastating damage to homes and businesses and killed one woman after a structure fell on her. In light of this destruction, all of the money raised will be spent on production needs locally in hopes to give to those families and businesses who may have been affected. We will be hiring our crew and local vendors as well as holding an open casting call. We will also be releasing more information regarding the soundtrack album we plan to produce alongside the film, featuring local artists, released by a local record label, DueceTre Ent, led by fellow Columbus native, Christopher "Kool Kutta" Burr, who is also Co-Producer/Music Supervisor on the film.

This story is gritty and touches on messages of growth in young black men who feel trapped in an environment due to negative programming by society, as well as to not bite the hand that feeds you whilst not succumbing to the "crabs in a barrel" trope the African American community has garnered.

Chloe Mondesir will be directing this dramatic short as a follow up to her directorial debut, a dramatic short film "Jacks", which is currently on the festival market. She's excited and ready for the challenge of creating the vision for this thrilling cautionary tale.
